Burrow Café: a hidden gem in Taytay, Rizal

When you live in busy Metro Manila, you might need an escape from the urban madness from time to time. It's good to take a break from the traffic and breathe some fresh air. Antipolo, Rizal is a very convenient place to go to relax as it's quite near the Metro but not as busy or polluted.

I don't stay in Manila now, but I have lived there way back in 2015 for work. I do go to Manila occasionally to visit my two siblings who study there. This February, while I was waiting for job offers for work I'm applying for, I went to Manila for a quick vacation. For one of my siblings' birthday, we went to Antipolo and had a fine lunch at Burrow Café at Antipolo Beehouse.

Transportation is quite easy and affordable from Metro Manila, we booked a Grab. We went on a holiday so traffic wasn't so dense. The restaurant encourages reservations ahead of time, and we were lucky we got a slot. If you go, be ready with a good #OOTD and make sure your phones and cameras are charged, as you will be taking a lot of selfies and pictures in this very Instagrammable café.

Going to the Café is an experience. The entrance will make you feel like Alice in Wonderland 'going down the rabbit hole' so to speak. You will be greeted by a garden with a mysterious-looking staircase that seems to lead underground.

When you go down, you will find a bright, airy, nature-inspired cafe. Outside the wide glass windows are trees and a small stream. The quality of the food also matches the beautiful environment. Below are some of the dishes we ordered:

Above is a Salmon fillet with Chimichurri cream, with mashed potatoes and a side of green beans and cherry tomatoes. Chimichurri cream is a South American sauce usually made with parsley, cilantro, garlic, salt, and olive oil.

They also serve pasta dishes. Above is a rich tomato-based pasta, and you can almost tell that the sauce is fresh and home-made.

They serve an assortment of all-day breakfast meals. This one is the 14-Day Corned Beef Brisket.

This is what I ate for lunch: Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Bordelaise sauce. Bordelaise is French in origin and made with red wine, bone marrow, butter, and shallots.

For dessert, we had a large slice of Chocnut cake drizzled with roasted cashew nuts.

Aside from the food, one can enjoy and appreciate it's great nature setting. Of course we had to take pictures!

My review: the food and ambiance are good, but we found the food quite expensive (by our standards). It's no problem if you want a special place for a date or an event. The trip to Antipolo to visit this cafe was worth it, though.
